How to use the reading exercises effectively
These exercises train your ability to read and understand longer texts in a new language.
The goal is not to understand every single word immediately. The goal is to gradually begin understanding the overall meaning naturally through context and repetition.
📖 Read first without translating everything
Try to read an entire paragraph before opening the translation.
The brain learns much better when it first tries to understand on its own.
Even if some words are unknown, you can often still understand:
- what is happening
- how the characters feel
- relationships between people
- where the story is going
💡 Use the translation as support
The translation exists to help you when something feels difficult.
But try reading the original text first whenever possible.
A good method is:
- Read the paragraph in the target language
- Try to understand the overall meaning
- Open the translation only if needed
- Then read the original text again
This trains real reading comprehension instead of simple translation.
🔊 Listen while reading
Use the audio button several times if needed.
When the brain both sees and hears the language at the same time, stronger connections form between:
- spelling
- pronunciation
- rhythm
- natural expressions
This improves both reading and listening comprehension.
🧠 Focus on the story, not every word
Try not to get stuck on small details.
In real situations, people often understand through context even when some words are unfamiliar.
Try asking yourself:
- What is happening here?
- Why is the person saying this?
- What will probably happen next?
❓ The quiz trains real understanding
The questions after the text are designed to check whether you understood the story and the context.
Some questions focus on facts while others require understanding between the lines.
Try to read the text like a real story instead of treating it like a vocabulary list.
📈 A good way to practice
- Read first without help
- Use the translation when needed
- Replay the audio several times
- Focus on the story and context
- Practice often in short sessions
After enough repetition, the brain begins recognizing common language patterns automatically and reading starts to feel faster and more natural.
